Details of the WHIP management practices:
- ranch split into 4 defined areas
- the following activities will occur in all areas:
- brush management - shearing, stacking and burning
- range planting - establishment of native vegetative cover using no till drill
- nutrient management - for initial grass establishment only
- prescribed grazing
- native grasses to be planted:
- Alamo Switchgrass
- Indiangrass
- Sideoats Grama
- Little Bluestem
- forbs to be planted:
- Illinois Bundleflower
- Maximillian Sunflower
- Partridge Pea
The ranch has also qualified as a US Fish & Wildlife Partner. Which will include assistance for fencing of reparian areas and planting of native trees.
